Mobile Payments : Do You Trust It ?

Hello and welcome back to another installment of.....

I'm glad you came back to visit me. lets get started shall we.

Mobile Payments.

At first, i will admit i was extremely skeptical about using my Smartphone's NFC feature to process payments from my bank account. 

Anyone with the smallest amount of paranoia would. However, i have used Apple, Android and Samsung Pay, and although some businesses are slow to accept mobile payments at the moment, it is extremely apparent that NFC payments are the Future.

So lets break down each one a little bit,

First let me say that most payment systems like the ones listed below, are best used with fingerprint verification for added security.

• Apple Pay

Apple Pay, for lack of a better explanation, is one of the more simpler avenues to use, you input your debit card information, gain a verification through your bank and you should be good to go, ONLY if the business you are patronizing accepts NFC payments that are compatible with Apple's corresponding technology.

• Android Pay

Similar story, Android Pay is micromanaged through Google, being compatible and usable with the most banks. It is, However, also limited to business that accept Google's NFC payment tech. 

• Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay is the most impressive of the bunch, it can also be stated that Samsung Pay is the most useful of the other aforementioned payment options. Samsung's new tech allows for payments to be processed without the business or organization having to have NFC tech. 

Let me Explain....

Any card reading machine is compatible with Samsung pay, if the machine allows you to swipe, can just place your phone near the area where you would normally swipe your card, and your device sends a signal similar to the one it receives when a card is swiped. 

Now, the only drawback is that Samsung Pay is limited to only just a handful of banks at the moment, most likely because other companies have placed some stock in Apple Pay, only because it was first on the scene. I'm guessing that it wasn't considered that Apple Pay wouldn't take off like it was supposed to. which causes Samsung to be limited to banks that haven't made a deal with apple yet. 

but that's just a personal theory of mine.

All of these payment systems provide you with a digital card number so that your actual card number isn't used in the transaction, think of it as a additional middle man for added security

when you put it all in perspective, Mobile Payments are more than the future, Samsung/Google/Android are presenting a new way of life for us as customers, Smartphones are consistently developing into All-In-One devices, and one day, we may never need wallets again, let alone debit/credit cards.

I am a fan of mobile payments, it works for me. Safe, Convenient, not to mention Extremely Cool-looking when used in public...

Google : Rumors and Speculation

Hello, and welcome back to another installment of......

we are glad you made it back...

This post will be a short one.....

Google has officially made their wireless service available. Currently its only available for Nexus 6 owners, but that tactic is obviously geared toward selling more handsets. Which is fine, but most likely will be short-lived. 

moving on....

with Google now serving as a wireless carrier, and pushing sales for the Nexus 6, is it plausible for them to extend their reach into Apple's territory?

Rumors have been circling about, saying that Google was developing an Android Wear app for iOS,

and if this rumor has any truth to it....

Apple could be in some real trouble...

What is that company to do? 

Apple is currently focusing on the Apple Watch and its sales, and if Google steps in the way of that with Android Wear, many people that do not like the design or battery life of the Apple Watch may resort to Android wearables , The Apple Watch's main selling point is that its one of the few high-quality smart watches that is compatible with Apple and is available at this moment, however if Android Wear for iOS becomes reality, that will no longer be so. People could actually pair their iPhones with Moto 360's or Asus Zen Watches, some of which are the best smartwatches available from Google....

and there is more...Google and Apple have not had the most pleasant history when it comes to making the same apps available in their respective application stores.

If Apple decides to block this potential Android Wear app, what does that say to the customers? 

It says to us that Apple wants what Apple wants and the customers rights to desire something other than what they make, are irreverent. It may also spark the idea for people to abandon the iPhone and seek that perfect Smartphone/Smartwatch pairing elsewhere...

We say well played with Google, the ball is in Apple's court now. 

They have a tough decision to make, and we here at TechExpo anxiously await their decision....

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge 

On March 1st Samsung held their bi-yearly announcement or press conference at Mobile World Congress Barcelona, Spain. and with those announcements, comes the quelling of rumors and speculation that has had the Internet in an uproar since the release of the Galaxy Note Edge Experiment. Now we have the S6 in all of its highly anticipated glory..

Lets start with the specs of both devices..

First the Samsung Galaxy S6 (shown below)

• Quad 2.1Ghz + 1.5 Ghz, Octacore Processor
• Android 5.0 Lollipop (with TouchWiz on top of course)
• 16mp Camera with Optical Image Stabilization, Paired with a 5.0mp front facing camera (with quick launch.
• Ultra Power Saving Mode
•  Download Booster
• Samsung Pay
• "Theme" Store
• Private Mode
• 3GB Ram, 2550 mAh battery
• Wireless Charging (4 hours of battery life on 10 minutes of charging time)
• Improved, Swipe-less, Fingerprint Scanner, with functionality close to that of Touch ID

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

-equipped with all of the above listed features plus...

• Slightly Larger 2600mAh battery
• Dual Edge Display (for notifications and other application functions)

Speaking of dual edges, lets discuss the display of the S6 Edge. this new display curves around the sides of the device, dramatically reducing the left and right bezels. and providing unique viewing angles along with a more immersive experience. As seen below.

While the S6 will definitely be considered a flagship with all of its specs (on paper), its more than obvious that the Galaxy S6 Edge will definitely be the company's main focus.

 Both devices will feature some on Samsung's more popular features, such as multi -screen app/web browsing , and app bubbles/contact favorites. but the Galaxy S6 Edge display alone is simply, attractive. Something more that the Edge and S6 have added is a highly reflective rear glass, that just makes people marvel when they lay eyes on it!

The material on this device alone makes it more than a worthwhile purchase.

These devices have an availability set for the month of April, specifically the 10 day of the month.

Naturally deals and prices may vary depending on what carrier you select, but we are told that such prices should be close to if not uniform for this device, seeing that it will be available through all major carriers, including some prepaid carriers...

We hope to get our hands on a test model in the near future, to do a comparison of features.

The Best Tech of 2014!

Welcome back to another installment of...

  Now that 2014 has reached its expected end, it would be fitting for us to take a look back and see what this past year had to offer us, in terms of technological advancement, of course.

Lets start off with the Good stuff, shall we?

The Nexus 6 & 9!

                After the release of the nexus 5 (smartphone) and the nexus 7 (tablet) in 2013, the fans of the popular device line had long awaited the arrival of a current model nexus from a different manufacturer. LG and ASUS were in charge of last years models, and they sold an adequate amount of units. But now, HTC and Motorola has taken their turn at making both a smartphone and tablet for the Nexus series. With the nexus 6's 5.96 inch 2560x1440p resolution, 13mp camera and 3220 mAh battery... It would seem that Motorola remembered every detail that a phablet should entail (based on public opinion, and sales from the One M8) , with an added bonus of front facing speakers. I mean who doesn't love those?

                The Nexus 9 is basically a larger version of the smartphone variant (naturally), meaning that if you bought both devices, navigating them would be a breeze, plus what makes the nexus name so popular, are the updates, straight from google, and good for at least 2 years. (Currently running lollipop/Android 5.0)

The Nexus 6 and 9 are both on my (Matthew's) christmas list, just in case anyone was wondering.

I kinda figured someone would care.....

moving on.....

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

           You can call Apple Inc. copycats, hypocrites or just a bunch of plain ol'  followers, but you must admit, the iPhone is better now, that it has ever been. I've reviewed the 6 and 6 Plus in a separate blog already but I will say this, the 6 plus (my personal daily driver) has impressed me! and that isn't an easy task to accomplish. The battery life is exquisite, the screen resolution, while not Quad HD, still provides a premium experience, and the build quality ( with an all metal design ), put iPhone 6 and 6 plus, at the top of my list of devices that are a must have for the last quarter of 2014.

The Pebble Smartwatch

Disclaimer : Let me just say that I'm not just putting these devices on my list, solely because I own some of them, But because they are just amazing devices of this year!

            The Pebble Smartwatch has been awarded best smartwatch of 2014 in most tech award categories. Yes, that means that the Pebble won over the Moto 360, ASUS Zen Watch, Sony smartwatch, and the Samsung Galaxy gear, all of which are more "technologically advanced" than the pebble. But what makes this device more popular than the rest?

• The Price
• Availability
• Cross-Platform Usage (meaning compatible with Apple Products as well as Android Devices)
• Look and Feel (Build Quality)
• Steel Variant
• Battery Life (up to 7 days between charges)

          Of course with a price point of $79-$99 (depending on what sale is going on at the moment), the Pebble suffers some lack of fancy tech that you get on other watches, like a touchscreen for example, or a high resolution, pixel dense multi-color display. However I find that the physical buttons on the device make me feel like more of a spy when I'm using it, and the retro look makes it very easy not to compare it to other devices, its in a class of its own.. So, there's that.

These three devices (well 4 if you count the nexus 9) are, in my opinion..the best tech of 2014!!In spite of everything else that has been released throughout the year, these devices have managed to stir up the most conversation, debate, controversy, and general buzz in the tech world during their respective debuts. Sure other tech could go on my list, like the Galaxy Note 4, great device, or the One+, equally great, the Moto X 2014, or even the HTC One M8, all wonderful pieces of tech, but they pale in comparison, not on a specifications sheet, but in popularity. 

And of course you know that's what technology is really about, 

popularity.....

The 2015 Ford Mustang - Its been 50 years!

to say this new version of the mustang is the best I've seen...would be an understatement..

Hi....and welcome back to 

like the new sign? lol we do too! 

This car has dramatically improved. even from the prowess of its previous versions, in all aspects as far as I'm concerned.

Let's start with the outside. 

         The completely redesigned body style shines light on Ford's new ideal of staying relevant with the times, completely updating the look and performance of the infamous pony car. The 2015 rendition comes equipped with a independent rear suspension, allowing it to produce a much more "tame" and "refined" ride with a lot less outside noise in the process. (excluding the engine of course).

         Speaking of which....there are now three of them. Starting at the entry level, There is of course the tried and true 300hp V6. (down 5hp from last year's model, yes, but the standard features more than make up for it)

          Then there is the new "star" engine of the show, if you will. The turbocharged 310hp 4 cylinder ecoboost engine. This variant simply screams out the fusion of power and efficiency.  While it may fall short of the traditional 8cyl thrill. It does provide what the V6 mustang just didn't have in the past. More power WITH more fuel economy. Sure the straight 6 was and yet remains strong, but said engine is only strong as long as it had fuel to consume....Lol in the ecoboost, you are afforded more fun at a lower fuel cost...

      As a current V6 mustang owner, the ecoboost version of this car intrigues me. A lot.

         And last but never least, we have the "ol faithful" of the bunch. The overpowered and highly sought after 435hp V8 engine. Or the 5.0 (five-oh) as its most popularly called. And even tho, its not known for exceptional fuel economy.... Its just plain fun.

Let's get to the Inside!!

Where all the other tech lies!

      Now, the Premium models of the Ecoboost and the GT come with some perks that simply just were not available on the mustangs of the past. Unfortunately the V6 model does not receive such love, begin redistricted to the base models only. These premium models come with upgrades like, heated and cooled seats (lined with leather of course), the MyFord Touch infotainment system with or without navigation (which has also received some updates for increased touch sensitivity and accuracy), Blind spot Monitoring, Parking Sensors, Back-Up Camera, Multiple driving modes, all with a completely redesigned interior and my personal favorite...an external trunk release button..(call me petty but I think its cool lol). This is the kind of technology that was formerly foreign to the Mustang

What's that? How do they drive you ask?

I cant describe it really....the Ecoboost is okay...the GT is in a different classification altogether

iPhone 6 Plus Vs the Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Welcome back to.......

We have here, in our possession, both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 AND the iPhone 6 Plus. Our writer (Matt) has been playing with them for at least 3 days now...so lets see what he thinks!

 - TechExpo' Management 

I'm going to get straight to the point..... Lets start with the iPhone 6 Plus.

My (Long Term) review model is The iPhone 6 Plus Gold 128Gb model with AT&T as the service provider.

I like it for now. I don't Love it just yet...

     Being that this is my first time owning an Apple product for longer than 15 minutes, I must say and admit that I finally realize what makes Apple, Apple.....The Quality...

        Yes there are some other devices that can come close to the build and software quality that the iPhone currently possesses, but Apple has managed (over the years) to provide consistent quality for as long as they have been in this business..

        Also, Yes, The iPhone lacks ALOT of features that I'm normally used to on other popular android devices, but its simplicity, performance, and its presentation definitely won me over in only a matter of minutes. However its lack of customization-based properties leave me wanting so much more. much more... 

The iPhone Excels in factors such as..

• Touch I.D (fingerprint scanner)
• Responsiveness (Keyboard, opening apps, ect.)
• Battery Life
• Camera Functions (much improved "low-light" shots)
• Build Quality (despite its "slipperiness")
• Presentation and Simplistic User Interface 

Now the iPhone Fails (in my opinion, as an android fan) in factors such as...

• Customization (Widgets, Application Placement on the Home Screen)
• Slippery build quality (slips out of some pockets of mine)
• Fear of bending (i had to put that in there, I'm kidding its not an actual issue)
• Call Quality ( this has taken a dip from the previous versions of the iPhone)

fortunately, the pros out-weight the cons which means I will actually keep this phone instead of selling it on Ebay (which was my first plan) for $1500 lol...

In essence, the iPhone is prime for practicality, but not much else...

Moving on....

Now we are at the Samsung Galaxy Note 4....

The Review Model is the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Black) 32gb model with AT&T as the service provider.

This phone simply screams "polar opposite" when it comes to all the cons that come with the iPhone..

Its Quad High Definition Display will give the iPhone's a run for its money, or bit coin, or whatever phones use to gamble with these days, 

The Note Excels in factors such as

• Customization
• Multi-tasking
• Battery Life
• Usability (loaded with features that only require a small learning curve)
• Screen Resolution (fades as the phone gets older tho, talking 2-3 years here)
• Increased Design and Build Quality

The Note 4 Fails in these factors.....

......

.....

......

......

I did ^ that on purpose....the Note 4 hasn't failed any of my tests...

its a wonderful phone. 

Yes I bought the iPhone anyway, because i wanted to review it And i wanted something a little different this time.....

but if I were to get rid of  my iPhone, The Note 4 is one of the two phones I would consider replacing it with, The other phone being the Nexus 6 but that's another blog post....

Bottom line is...the iPhone is easy to use, so easy that anyone else could pick it up and perfectly navigate it, They are all (usually) the same when it comes to the user interface, this is a pro in the Apple world, however it remains a con in the Android world. 

The Note 4 is again, its polar opposite, is for those who like to change user interfaces, or let their home screen pop with originality. Sure its loaded, sometimes overloaded with features, and yes some of them are ridiculous and may not ever be used....

but they are there

just in case...

and that's what I like!

This battle of quality, usability, and personality goes to the Galaxy Note 4 (in my opinion)

However

The war for consistency in performance, presentation, and reliability is won by the iPhone (also in my opinion) 

the Ultimate choice is always yours...

Android Wear Vs. The Apple Watch - Which (if any) is the wearable for you?

WELCOME BACK TO......

Alright, Android Wear has quite a few devices in its roster.
 Now apple has theirs.
Obviously they are only (currently) compatible with their respective operating systems.

So the question presents itself.

Which system do you choose?

        I find it extremely hard to decide. I'm interested (for what ever reason) in the iPhone 6 Plus, However I am also equally interested (and rightfully so, being the android fan that I am) in the Moto 360 smart watch/wearable. Unfortunately, both devices are not compatible with each other (at the moment). but we'll talk about that later. 

Today I'm here to tell you about Android Wear and The New Apple Watch 

Lets start with Android Wear.

Samsung Gear Live (Shown directly above)

LG G Watch (shown directly above)

        Android Wear was introduced shortly after Samsung's stab in the wearable department. While the Galaxy Gears were coming in at sub par in the area of sales, Google decided to answer with a wearable expansion of the card system we have grown to love in the Google Now app on our phones. In that particular extension, you are equipped with notifications from a few of your favorite applications like hangouts, facebook messenger, dialer , google maps, gmail and so on. These notifications (based on the cards UI from google) allow for you to have a quick glance at what is going on, reply to such, and keep moving on with you day without reach for your phone. Unlike the former Galaxy Gear products (which were based on Tizen for their interface), these Android Wear devices (LG G watch, Moto 360 and Samsung's New Gear Live) do not allow for you to hold conversations through this particular interface, however the notification comes through just the same.

Now Keep in mind that wearables are in their infancy, and no product is perfect, ESPECIALLY the first few of its kind

Which leads me to my next subject....

The Apple Watch

(shown below)

The Apple Watch, or iWatch as its infamously known, seems to have the same eye-catching features that the first Samsung Galaxy Gear exhibited when it was first released along side the Note 3 in 2013. The Apple Watch allows for calls to be made through its interface, along with text message and email answering capabilities, and of course the notification/map direction feature. The iWatch however is equipped with that highly sought after sapphire glass, and has easily changeable watch straps ( a lot...a whole lot of em.) for easy and quick customization (something apple isn't known for, but shall be well received, no doubt).

For once, Apple shares something with the competition when it comes to wearables. Everything is still new.
Its entirely too early to determine which type of devices will "make it" in terms of longevity.

What should you by?

The Motorola 360 of course, yes over Lg's G Watch and Samsung's Gear line.

At least you have choice on the Android Side. Apple only has...apple lol like it or nah!

Well the day has finally come.

the very day that half (or about one third) of the world was waiting for.

The release event of the new iPhone.

Now i want it to be know that I (Matthew) am, has and always will be a purebred android fan and connoisseur. This well known fact about me may not ever change..

And as much flack as I give to Apple's products and their lack of luster...

these devices appeal to a certain demographic of people that do not seem to mind the subtle changes that apple makes year to year. 

With that being said, lets get into what exactly happened today...

don't blink, you might miss these points... (lol)

okay okay ill stop... lol

•  The Infamous 8mp iSight Camera now w/ Focus Pixels Tech (with Optical Image Stabilization on the 6 Plus)
• Slow-Motion Video Recording  (120fps to 240fps ((really slow)))
• Wifi Calling (when cell signal is too low to make calls)
• VLTE Support
•  Average of 10h on battery (from what i could make out, promise of a full days' usage)
• Landscape View on select apps and even on Home screen (6 Plus Only)
• A8 processor chip (25% faster than 5s)
• 720p resolution (on the 6) and Full HD 1080p (on 6 Plus)

from what i could see, that was pretty much it. 

Of Course, the phones will come in the famous colors that include Gold, Silver and Space Gray

Pre-Orders begin Sept 12

and the phones will be available for regular purchase on Sept 19th

why apple chose to do away with a 32gb model?...no one knows..

The company seems to know the tablet market as well as the markets of laptops and desktops. I just expect something mind-blowingly cool and exclusive, a gimmick if you will..

but maybe that's what i get for being an Android Fan..

Samsung Unpacked IFA Episode 2 (2014) - The Galaxy Note Edge

WELCOME BACK TO........

This will be a short post...

Surprise!!! Surprise!!!

*in my best Gomer Pyle voice* 

While watching the Samsung Unpacked Event on last week, my mind went back to the many rumors that suggested that Samsung had something else up their sleeve that was guaranteed to rattle some cages in the mobile tech world. 

And again, Samsung doesn't disappoint in the shock and awe department.

The Galaxy Note Edge is definitely one of the most interesting devices I've ever seen debuted. 

It features all the qualities of the latest version of the Galaxy Note (4) but it has this "edge" or extended screen, As i like to refer to it, on the right side that houses a few apps and serve as a "quick reference" of sorts for some features. 

Now with this Device, i cant really give my opinion yet, however I do believe this is a step in the right direction...whichever that direction maybe. Its different, is subtle and its appealing to a demographic that the tech world wasn't sure it had in the first place..

Clash of the Tech Titans (Samsung vs. Apple vs. Motorola)

I have a problem. A problem that I haven't had in a very long time.

For the first time in about 6 years....

i don't know what phone i want..

September seems to be the magic month for new phones and accessories, and for a good reason...the holidays...

what better way to prepare to close out the year (as a business) than to release a new product that everyone (all the nerds like myself) has been anticipating since January....it gives us all time to settle into the "take my money now" mindset.. and it keeps the businesses in the black...or green, or blue or whatever is the good money making color....(lol i know its black....i think).

with that being said we have a few highly anticipated devices supposedly being announced in September (Hopefully released for sale by October/November). Those devices are the infamous iPhone 6 (4.7), the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and the equally infamous Motorola 360 smartwatch (equipped with Android Wear which i will talk about in a separate blog post)

Even though this post is created before the official announcement of these devices, I'm going to deliver to you the most relevant of rumors that have the most validity. I wouldn't dare deliver information that I KNOW isn't true. 

Lets get in to it then shall we...

First up we have the iPhone 6.....

What's to be Expected? 

      well...we know for certain that the screen size WILL be the 4.7 and 5.5 inch options. we (I lol) also have confirmed that there will be different tiers of the iPhone just like before with the 5s and 5c. The lesser will mostly likely not come with the more expensive and highly famed Sapphire Glass...

speaking of which it seems that this Sapphire Glass is apple's new famous gimmick (everyone has them). Since one of the leading problems with iPhones, just so happens to be with the delicate glass on both the front and back of the phone. This Sapphire glass is highly bendable, extremely hard to scratch and very easy to keep clean, so you have that to look forward to... 

as far as the software side goes...apple did hint on something at WWDC a few months back, they mentioned a feature that allows you to remove yourself from group text messages... now i have to admit...that is a feature that i'm really looking forward to...like seriously..

Next we have the Samsung Galaxy Note 4....

So Whats New?

Well....there are alot of rumors going around about the Note 4 having a metal body, a quad HD display, an even more boss of a battery, stronger glass, a better camera

However...while these features have been confirmed, no one knows what else the phone will do...

Now i can guess (because sometimes i can be right...sometimes) that there will be a fingerprint scanner, and i can also guess that there will be a heart rate monitor for fitness applications, but those features have not been confirmed either....

Other than whats posted above, i cant confirm or deny any other features that the phone may or may not have.

That says a lot for Samsung. if you have unreliable leaked information, then that means you have a (for the most part) secure company. sure some details may slip out, but are they full details or just a piece of that is to come in september... 

Needless to say that Samsung's Note line hasn't disappointing us in a very very long time and i earnestly believe that the Note 4 will follow in those precise footsteps. 

Finally we have The Motorola 360 (Smartwatch)

What's This?

         Now i cant speak for anyone else, but this has to be the one device that I want over everything else I've seen this year. I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and when it was released, it shared the spotlight with the Galaxy Gear and later the Gear 2 (Neo and Fit), and even further down the line the Gear Live, all of which didn't go over very well. LG even stepped out there with their G Watch, which was kind of hit and miss...more miss than hit. Motorola seems to have taken their time and created a product that ALOT of people want. 

we want a smartwatch that....

• ...has a great multi-day battery
• ...equipped with a great easy-to-read display
• ...comes with software that can be customized
• ...comes with hardware (wrist straps) that can be customized
• ...easily pairs with your android (soon to be apple) device(s)
• ...looks really expensive and unnecessarily cool and nerdy 

that last bit was for me.....

    But with that being said the Moto 360, as its being referred to, has promised all of these qualities and more. We wont know the "more" part until after the launch event coming up soon, but don't worry ill keep you posted. Ill make it my life's responsibility to do just that *side-eye*

Rumor has it that its starting off at $249....and they are going to get it from me....

with this, yes, i have the "Take My Money Now" syndrome..

The Lg G3

     

 Quick Blog!

        Released last week, The Lg G3 has already proven to be an awesome device. Now-a-days with flagship phones pretty much having similar specifications, the best way to sell a phone now, apparently, is to equip a device with one (or more) qualities that consumers just wont see on any other devices, or operating systems in this particular case.

I won't bore you with all the specs, being that they aren't much different from other popular devices at the moment.

but i will point out some things that make the LG G3 unique...

        1. Micro sd card expansion (up to 128gb) - this is something that I am so GLAD to see becoming common place in smartphone specifications. People want the option to have more storage without having to pay ridiculous prices for devices that do not allow for memory expansion *cough* (iPhone) *cough* oh....excuse me...


        2. Laser Auto-Focus - the G3 uses a laser to focus extremely fast and allow for "one-touch picture capturing". I'm just hoping it will respond with an reasonable amount of speed when it comes to specialty photo settings like HDR and background blur features...we shall see


        3. a beautiful 1440x2560, 5.5 inch True HD-IPS display with a pixel density of 534ppi (pixels per square inch) and Gorilla Glass 3...if you are in to this kind of thing, not much else needs to be said, if you don't know what im talking about...here is a translation....

its one of the best screens you can look at in 2014 (with the exception of the "Oppo Find 7 and 7a, which I will talk about later)

        4. New "Knock" Lock screen - Normally with android devices you have the option of using a pattern or password to lock your phone. Quite handy, with any device. But it depends on what you are doing or have touched before unlocking your phone that could leave its security at risk. Fingerprints do not lie. Aaaaand with most smart phone users, we like to keep our passwords simple for quick and seamless access, which can also tell on us, and let anyone into our phone...

       The G3 gives you the option to fool everyone again with its "Knock" lock screen. just like you would with a password, you can set up a knock password, where you would simply tap on a certain area of the screen (preferably with one knuckle) and unlock your phone. no passwords, no patterns, and no fingerprints. unless of course you have active knuckles...

I'm not judging anyone...

that's all the information I'm going to give, because i want to leave something to the imagination.

I've probably already spoiled most of the surprises, but that what tech blogs are for is it not?

Project Ara - The Future of Smartphones

Lets get right to it shall we?

"Le' Struggle"

(a short story)

So you just bought a new phone, and for the first couple days or even weeks, you love everything about your phone. I mean everything, the screen, the button placement, the bezels, the battery life, EVERYTHING....except.......the speakers. You just wish that the speakers were just a tad bit louder, just a tad..as time goes on, you start to see phones that have front-facing speakers that delivers sound and an highly professional rate of enjoyment (boom sound on the Htc one/one M8)...and you think to yourself, i wish my phone had that...

two months later you decide..i want that, i really want those speakers on a phone, and even though you don't really like the phone all that much, you would settle for it any way just because you want those speakers, and that sound!

I speak from personal experience...this isn't hypothetical. lol

lets continue..

BUT WAIT! I just signed another 2 year contract. I mean i could just switch carriers again, but what if i leave and find out I don't really like the phone I'm going to...or the carrier for that matter...

What is one to do?

(insert awkward silence here)

Google has thought of this...

Which is why Google is currently developing a remedy to these kinds of quirks that people like myself (and I'm sure many others) have about their phones and ALL of their features.

this endeavor is know as 

Google Project Ara

or as I call it...

"the birth of modular-ism"

let me explain...

so as i stated in my short story earlier, i loved everything about my phone except the speakers, remember?

well what if i could detach the speaker and replace it with another speaker that gives me the sound I'm looking for?

Better yet, what if i could change the data capacity of the phone, or the size of the screen, or switch to a larger battery, or even switch to a higher megapixel camera.....and keep the same phone...

in essence,

that's what project ara is...

you may or may not have heard this project referred to as "Phoneblocks" 

same general idea...

instead of trying to buy the latest and greatest phone packed with features that will be obsolete in 6 months - 1 year anyway...

you could just purchase a block (or tile in this case) and just slide it in to a space that you choose, and there you go...upgraded specs..

not following me? here's a couple of photos to better explain...

and just like that...slide out a tile of a feature that is not one of your favorites, and replace it with one that is..

think about it.

i mean really think about it 

...

i mean how awesome is that, 

Naturally the tiles will lock in place to keep everything from falling to pieces when you wave/drop/bump your phone. (So i hope)

and Naturally, its going to run android, because Apple does not have the innovation or swiftness for this kind of thing..

and...

its a Google project, but my first explanation is a better one, in my opinion..lol (*side eye*).

and what really sold me is the rumor that the base models (basic specs, ready for customization upon purchasing) will be sold at or around the $50-$75 price range. 

also rumored is the price of the tiles will be around $15-25.

what would be increasingly awesome is if you could trade older tiles in for new ones. to also lend a hand in cutting down price.

Google is a gigantic company, with alot of money. 

and even though money is the reason they are in business,

im thinking that money isnt what they are focusing on right now

it would stand to reason that Google/Android is putting all efforts towards innovation and changing the way we use our mobile technology forever...

just as the legendary Steve Jobs did with the iPhone/iPod. 

and even if Project Ara flops...

the innovation is there...

the ideas are getting better....

and this is why i write about it!
